Accommodation near Tenerife’s airports
In Tenerife, ‘a hotel near the airport’ doesn’t mean anything until you say which airport. There are two of them, they are 54 kilometres apart, and the vast majority of the island’s accommodation is concentrated near one of them.
There are no hotels inside either of the two terminals.
Areas, by airport and by connection
- Los Cristianos, Costa Adeje and Playa de las Américas — the island’s largest concentration of hotels, 20–35 minutes from the the South airport on the number 40 bus, and with a night service provided by the number 711. - Puerto de la Cruz and the Orotava Valley — traditional tourism in the north, less than half an hour from the the North airport on the number 30 bus. From the south, it takes nearly two hours. How to get there.
- Santa Cruz and La Laguna — city centres, well connected to the North (line 20, every quarter of an hour until after midnight) and reasonably well connected to the south (line 10). How to get there.
- El Médano and San Isidro — the closest to the southern airport, with fewer hotels and more holiday accommodation. How to get there.
What to check before booking
Two things you should check before booking, and that hotel registration forms never say:
- Which airport does your flight arrive at? Booking a flight to Puerto de la Cruz and landing in the south – or vice versa – turns a half-hour journey into a two-hour one. How to tell.
- The time of the return flight. If you’re heading out in the early hours, check that there’s a bus running at that time from your area. In the south, there’s the 711; in the north, night-time services are less frequent.

Frequently Asked Questions
There are no hotels within either of the two terminals. The nearest areas to the south are San Isidro and El Médano; to the north, La Laguna and Santa Cruz.
If you’re staying in Los Cristianos, Costa Adeje or Playa de las Américas, head south. If you’re staying in Puerto de la Cruz, Santa Cruz or La Laguna, head north. The difference between getting it right and getting it wrong is an hour and a half’s journey.
In the South, this is not always the case: between 23:00 and 04:00, and when there are no flights, the terminal remains closed to the public; access is restricted to staff and passengers in the hours leading up to their flight’s scheduled departure. In that case, bus route 711 is the night service to Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje.
